3-Year Used Container Warranty

Every used ISO shipping container purchased directly from Bolt Containers is backed by a 3-year structural warranty starting from the date of purchase or delivery. This coverage protects the original purchaser against material defects and structural frame failure under standard storage usage. All standard inclusions, exclusions, and activation requirements outlined below apply uniformly throughout this 3-year period.

What Is Covered

Our limited warranty protects the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship under normal storage conditions during the applicable warranty period.

1. Structural Frame Integrity

We guarantee the main structural skeleton of the container. This includes the primary steel beams, corner posts, and corner castings. If the structural frame twists or fails under standard storage usage, we will provide guidance or options to address the structural failure.

2. Leakproof Protection (Subject to Exclusions)

If your container develops a physical puncture or weld breach under normal use, we will provide a professional grade repair patch kit along with detailed application instructions at no charge.

  • The Repair Patch Kit: Made of durable fiberglass reinforced polyester fabric. It bonds to all surfaces except polypropylene, cures rapidly in bright sunlight, and can be sanded, drilled, or painted after it hardens.

What Is NOT Covered (Warranty Exclusions)

To keep our prices competitive and protect our operations, certain components and conditions are strictly excluded from this warranty:

  • Rust and Corrosion: Surface rust, structural rust, and any holes or leaks that develop over time due to rust or environmental oxidation are not covered. Steel maintenance is the responsibility of the owner.

  • Wear and Tear Components: Doors, door seals, rubber gaskets, locking rods, hinges, and flooring are excluded from the structural warranty.

  • Cosmetic Defects: Dents, dings, scratches, original paint condition, and minor cosmetic imperfections do not affect structural integrity and are not covered.

  • Content and Consequential Loss: This warranty covers the container shell only. We are not liable for any damage to, or loss of, items stored inside the container, nor are we liable for any indirect or incidental losses.

  • Environmental Issues: Odors, moisture buildup, internal condensation, or mold are not covered.

Critical Site Preparation Requirements

ISO shipping containers are engineered to distribute and rest their weight entirely on their 4 corner castings. Proper site preparation is mandatory to prevent severe structural damage over time.

  • Foundation Leveling: The placement area must be flat, firm, prepared, and completely level before the container is set down.

  • Avoiding Structural Strain: If the ground is uneven, unprepared, or soft, the heavy weight of the container causes the steel frame to twist or sag. This misalignment binds the doors, degrades the welds, and compromises the integrity of the unit.

  • Warranty Exclusion: Any structural frame distortion, door binding, or failure resulting from poor site preparation, uneven shifting ground, or failure to properly support the 4 corner castings will completely void this warranty.

Conditions That Void the Warranty

The limited warranty will become instantly void if any of the following actions occur after delivery:

  • Relocation: The container must remain at its original delivery site. Moving, tilting, or transporting the container after initial placement voids all coverage.

  • Modifications: Any unauthorized cutting, welding, structural alterations, or mechanical modifications performed without our written approval will void the warranty.

  • Misuse or Accidents: Damage caused by impact from vehicles or heavy equipment, overloading beyond design limits, negligence, or lack of standard maintenance is not covered.

Customer Responsibilities and Claims Process

To maintain your eligibility and file a valid warranty claim, the original purchaser must fulfill the following requirements:

Mandatory Warranty Activation for Depot Pick-Up Orders

If you arrange your own transport to pick up the container from our depot, you must activate your warranty within 30 days of pickup. To activate the coverage, email claims@boltcontainers.com with the following details:

  • Your full name and order number.

  • The physical address where the container is permanently located.

  • Exactly 5 required activation photographs: You must attach 4 separate clear photos showing the container from each of its 4 main corners/angles, and 1 wide-angle photo taken from far away that clearly shows the entire container and the prepared foundation it is resting upon.

Failure to submit this activation email and all 5 required placement photos within 30 days of depot pickup will completely void the warranty coverage.

How to File a Claim

If a structural defect or covered leak occurs, you must notify us promptly. Send an email to claims@boltcontainers.com with:

  1. Your original order number and proof of purchase.

  2. A clear description of the problem.

  3. Multiple photographic angles showing the affected area and the overall condition of the container.

Note: Bolt Containers reserves the right to request full length inspection photos of the container before approving any warranty materials or kits. On site installation labor for patches or components is not included.
