Why choose a high cube?
A high cube adds about one foot of headroom. Inside height is about 8 ft 10 in, compared with about 7 ft 10 in in a standard 20-foot container, which gives roughly 12% more space. It suits tall equipment, racking, stacked pallets and workshops. It is also taller to deliver, so check overhead wires, branches and gates on the route and at your site. For more length, see the 40-foot high cube container. If height does not matter, compare the 20-foot standard container.
Common uses
A 20-foot high cube is commonly used for workshops, tall equipment and machinery, racked or stacked inventory, tool and material storage on job sites, and residential storage where extra headroom helps.

Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of a 20-foot high cube container?
A 20-foot high cube container is about 20 ft long, 8 ft wide and 9 ft 6 in tall outside. Inside it is about 19 ft 4 in long, 7 ft 8 in wide and 8 ft 10 in tall, with roughly 1,320 cubic feet of space. Dimensions follow the ISO standard and vary slightly by manufacturer and unit.
How much taller is a high cube than a standard container?
A high cube is one foot taller: 9 ft 6 in outside instead of 8 ft 6 in. Inside height is about 8 ft 10 in compared with about 7 ft 10 in, which adds roughly 12% more space than a standard 20-foot container.
How much weight can a 20-foot high cube hold?
The maximum gross weight is 67,200 lbs (30,480 kg). An empty container weighs about 4,850 to 5,100 lbs (2,200 to 2,315 kg), so the payload is about 62,000 to 62,350 lbs (28,160 to 28,280 kg). The exact ratings are printed on the container door, and we confirm them in your quote.
What does one-trip mean?
A one-trip container made a single trip carrying cargo before being sold, so it is the closest to brand new.
Do you sell used 20-foot high cube containers?
No. The 20-foot high cube is available in new (one-trip) condition only. Availability is confirmed in your quote.
Do I need extra clearance for a high cube?
Yes. A high cube is one foot taller than a standard container, so check overhead wires, tree branches and gates on the delivery route and at your site.
Do you deliver to my location?
Yes. We arrange delivery within the United States, all 50 states and U.S. territories. Delivery options and cost are confirmed for your ZIP code when you request a quote. We can also arrange delivery to Canada and the Caribbean.
Do I need equipment to unload the container?
It depends on the delivery type you choose. We can arrange tilt-bed delivery, where the trailer slides the container onto the ground and no crane or forklift is needed, or flatbed delivery, where the container stays on the truck bed and you provide a crane or forklift to unload it. Which one fits depends on your site and your requirements, and we confirm it in your quote.
What kind of site or foundation do I need?
A container rests on its four corners, so the ground must be flat, firm and level. Compacted gravel, concrete, asphalt or concrete blocks are common choices. Uneven or soft ground can twist the frame and void the warranty.
Can I modify or customize a container?
No. Bolt Containers sells containers and does not offer conversions, modifications or rentals. Cutting, welding or other unauthorized changes after delivery void the warranty.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept wire transfer, ACH, Zelle, check and credit card. We start processing your order once payment is credited to our account. Credit card payments are subject to approval and are available for orders under $3,000 in total, including delivery and taxes, with a 3.5% fee.
What warranty and return terms apply?
New containers have a 5-year structural warranty and used containers a 3-year structural warranty, counted from the date of purchase or delivery. All sales are as-is, and we do not accept returns unless a container fails its stated grade. Report a problem within 30 days to claims@boltcontainers.com with photos and a detailed report.
